Fundraising
tip of the week....
is
for Car Boot Sale. Most good sites now seem to have their own regular
sales but there is still room for the odd charity boot sale in the
grounds of a club, supermarket etc. Throw in some entertainment
to bring the crowds in, and raise lots of funds for PiA!

of advice on organising your own event, media coverage and marketing

Terry
Rawding, pictured above, front right, has been an avid supporter
and member of PiA for a number of years, and is a keen golfer, and
organiser of the Friday Afternoon Crew (FAC) Golf Society. The FAC
Golf society has around 50 members and is based in the midlands
where they play monthly fixtures between March and October, with
a celebratory dinner/dance event in October, and this year PiA are
their chosen charity! We would very much like to thank Terry and
all the members of the FAC Golf Society for supporting PiA!

The
company Achilles entered 16 people in the King Arthur and his Knights
activity weekend, called the Outward Bound Charity Challenge, where
the team embarked on individual and team challenges to raise money
for PiA. The team organised a cake and juice
sale at work, and held a raffle with prizes such as annual leave
and chocolates! Kieron Baker was one of the “outward
bounders” and his mother, Kathleen Baker, suffered with a primary
immunodeficiency, and was also a PiA member. Kathleen
sadly passed away on 12 April 2009, and Kieron,
who is set to run in the Virgin
London Marathon in 2011 for PiA, is keen to support PiA and help
raise awareness of these conditions. Here is his story:
"Each
Year Achilles participates in the Outward Bound Charity Challenge,
and chooses a charity to raise money for. This year we chose to
raise money for the PIA because I have had first hand experience
of their benefit. My mother suffered from Immunodeficiency for 20
years, being treated every two weeks at the JR Hospital in Oxford
by the support of the PiA. It was the PiA’s support that kept her
going, and left her able to lead a mainly full life before her passing
on in April 2010. The charities work is therefore priceless and
in need of continuous support. We tried to raise as much as we could
via the event and a very profitable cake sale resulting in the significant
sum we got to."
We
would like to thank Achilles and the team for their support in raising
£591.50 plus £156.96 in Gift Aid.
